Questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. For example, 15% of 80 is 80 × 15 ÷ 100 = 12.
How do I work out a percentage increase?
Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. From 50 to 65 is (65 − 50) ÷ 50 × 100 = 30% more.
Why isn't a 20% rise followed by a 20% fall back to the start?
The fall is taken from the bigger number. 100 + 20% is 120; 120 − 20% is 96. That is why the change calculator always divides by the starting value.
What is the difference between percentage change and percentage points?
Going from 10% to 12% is a rise of 2 percentage points but a 20% increase. This calculator works with values, so enter 10 and 12 to get the 20%.
